What to do when you’re in the process of making a Share the Vibe video? Roel Deden strolled around Eindhoven with his camera and took pictures. Of textures and materials, and the contrasts of the city. The result is a versatile image of Eindhoven: raw, refined and sometimes even quite beautiful.

Six years ago Roel Deden graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven, but in fact he had always been busy with drawing and ‘digital tinkering’. And with sports, he says. That’s why, after finishing high school, he chooses to study sports in Amsterdam, but soon realizes there is something very essential missing in his life: the creative process. And so Roel goes to Eindhoven.

For four years he is surrounded by a bubble of free-thinkers and ambitious makers. He learns everything he hopes to learn about digital design and gains new knowledge on the use of materials. After the DAE, he starts designing for Scholten and Baijings, and now he is a member of Envisions in Eindhoven: the designer collective in which experiment and research are leading, in which not the end product but the process is central.

What also characterizes Envisions is the focus on materials. For Roel they are the starting point of this Share the Vibe. Which materials stand out in Eindhoven? He talks about the plates of the Effenaar and the tiles on the outer walls of the Bijenkorf. He took photos of them and used the shapes for the visuals in the video. The music he selected is calm, following the rhythm of the images.
